The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) of the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons is seeking a talented, highly motivated Vice Chair of Education to develop
and promote a Departmental vision of education. This position will report directly to the Chair of EM and will oversee all of the Department’s educational programs including fellowship and residency
training programs, undergraduate education programs, faculty development as educators, and other Departmental educational initiatives. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of medical
education experience at the UME or GME level with at least 5 years in a leadership role as Vice-Chair, Residency Program Director, Director of Medical Student Education, or Assistant/Associate Dean preferred. The Department is seeking visionary candidates with strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively across the organization to promote excellence in training, teaching, and educational scholarship within the Department.
The faculty group at Columbia staffs four EDs with 250K combined annual visits: Columbia University Irving Medical Center which underwent a $100 million state-of-the-art renovation; the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital with an ACS accredited Level I Pediatric Trauma Center; The Allen Hospital, located in Northern Manhattan and Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY. Our academic EM faculty
supervise residents from our highly successful 4-year ACGME accredited residency program of 48 residents, medical students, as well as fellows in our highly competitive Pediatric EM Fellowship, the
Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship, EM Research Fellowship, and Adult and Pediatric EM Ultrasound Fellowships.
