World-class UW Emergency Medicine Education Program
The University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine (SoM), Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Director of the UW Emergency Medicine Medical Student Clerkship. Successful applicants will be board certified in Emergency Medicine, highly motivated, academically focused, and have previous graduate or undergraduate medical education experience. Emergency medicine is a required rotation for the UW SoM students and has consistently been rated among the highest of all required rotations. Students rotate within the UW Medicine emergency departments as well as at specified sites throughout the WWAMI (WA, WY, AK, MT, ID) region. In addition to this required EM clerkship, the DEM Student Programs supports an Emergency Medicine Scholars Program, a very active Emergency Medicine Interest Group, a pre-clinical Introduction to Emergency Medicine elective, and a pre-clinical preceptor program. This position will report to the Director of Student Programs and the Clerkship. Faculty in this position will have the opportunity to interface with all students in a range of activities. Our department boasts a large cohort of dedicated clinician-educators as well as a nationally known fellowship in Medical Education Research. The UW SoM, Harborview Medical Center (HMC) and the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) offer excellent, wide ranging and unique opportunities for medical student education. Faculty have access to a range of exceptional opportunities for academic growth, including collaboration with the UW Department of Biomedical Informatics and Medical Education (BIME), the Center for Leadership in Medical Education (CLIME), and the WWAMI Institute for Simulation in Healthcare (WISH). Full-time faculty must have a M.D. or terminal degree in the field or foreign equivalent. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Full-time faculty may be recruited at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor commensurate with experience.
This faculty will work in the emergency departments of HMC, which is the only Level I Trauma Center for a 4-state region and sees approximately 66,000 patients per year, and the UWMC, a tertiary/quaternary medical center with an ED volume of approximately 30,000 patients per year.
