Associate/Professor & Vice Chair of Research, Department of Emergency Medicine at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is recruiting a Vice Chair of Research who will be charged with leading an expanding research enterprise with enormous potential for growth and impact. This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician with a successful track record in all aspects of clinical and/or basic science research and is seasoned and passionate about leading an expanding and collaborative emergency medicine research team. The successful applicant will have a broad scope of responsibility and significant resources to lead the Department’s research mission at the Texas Emergency Medicine Research Center https://med.uth.edu/temrc/. The candidate should have a successful track record of federal funding awards in emergency research and have leadership and collaborative teamwork skills to develop and mentor high-quality research throughout the Department.

Located in the Texas Medical Center, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth’s Department of Emergency Medicine is one of the largest academic EM programs in the country and is affiliated with one of the busiest trauma centers in the country. The Department has a fully accredited three-year residency training program with 60 residents and ten fellows.

Our primary teaching sites are Memorial Hermann Hospital (MHH) in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (LBJ). MHH-TMC provides leading-edge care in cardiac, trauma, neuroscience, orthopedics, women’s health, general surgery, organ transplantation, and much more. As one of only two certified Level I trauma centers in the greater Houston area, the hospital provides 24/7 emergency and trauma care to over 75,000 patients annually. Memorial Herman Life Flight provides emergency rescue within a 150-mile radius. MHH TMC has achieved one of the highest levels of recognition a hospital can receive – Magnet recognition for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. LBJ is a 332 licensed¬ bed acute care hospital offering a full range of medical services. LBJ is a verified Level 3 Trauma Center and is the only trauma facility positioned to serve the needs of Northeast Harris County; and is one of only nine in the greater Houston area. Additionally, LBJ handles approximately three-to-four times the patient load of any other Level 3 trauma center in the region, with more than 83,000 emergency patient visits yearly and more than 14,500 inpatient admissions.
