Chair of Emergency Medicine

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking a dynamic leader for its Department of Emergency Medicine. With access to a state-of-the-art simulation center and clinical experiences, the department provides a rich environment for learning clinical emergency medicine, delivering outstanding training at the undergraduate, residency, and fellowship levels. More than 80 specialty-trained, board-certified emergency physicians participate in the Department’s clinical, teaching, and research programs. Faculty provide world-class emergency, trauma, and medical services to 160,000+ emergency patients annually.

The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo’s two teaching health systems: Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare. WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations.

Reporting to the CEO and Dean of WMed, the Chair of Emergency Medicine will build on an extremely successful emergency medicine residency, EMS fellowship, and collaborative working relationships with two local hospital emergency departments along with their respective EM practice groups, and across the broader community and state. Board-certified in Emergency Medicine, the Chair will embody the highest levels of personal and professional commitment, enthusiasm, and integrity, and will share WMed’s vision of health equity for all in Southwest Michigan. The Chair will further the school’s mission, vision, and values, aligning the Department with other units of the medical school to achieve excellence in patient care, physician education and training, and scholarship.

With extensive current experience in leadership and scholarship (a combination of research and education), the Chair will collaboratively lead delivery of the highest standards of emergency medicine teaching, research, and care. The Chair will steward resources and advance collaborative academic and clinical partnerships within the Department, across the School, and with community partners.
